T Family {Dripping Springs Family Photography}

We used some awesome vintage buildings in downtown Dripping Springs, Texas on Mercer Street for a family session tonight. Four young children always makes for a fun challenge in family photography, but as I am a family photographer I enjoy the challenge! Having five young rowdy kids myself, and my kids make these look tame, I can also fully appreciate the importance of putting in the time and effort of getting family photos done. I’ve been there: the stress of finding suitable clothing without stains, the aggravation of being in a hurry, the annoying dad who gets grumpier than the wee ones (I’m talking about my own man, er, not any other dad I’ve ever worked with!) So I definitely get the hassle, which makes each and every family session precious to me.

Despite all the hassle, it’s also my job to create FUN once the family arrives! Tickles, cuddles, playfulness not only makes for more fun at the session, but far better photos afterward! These kiddos did an outstanding job, holding still, following instructions, natural smiles almost on cue, and check out the outfits! Tell mom way to go!

Austin Fashion Week {Austin Event Photography}

Just doing my part to uphold our local motto of “Keep Austin Weird” this weekend as Austin Fashion Week opened with its Kick Off Red Carpet Party at GSD&M Idea City downtown. The clever designers and creative stylists put on a fantastic show, as well as local graphic artists creating the original virtual signature characters to advertise the event, and body artists Michelle Pulsifer and Donald McCaskill recreating them in the flesh to the thrill of the paparazzi! I came in to do head shots of the models and got to hang around pretending like I was blending in to the camera crowd.

Johnny & Natalie {Georgetown Wedding Photography}

Congratulations to Johnny & Natalie on their wedding! They were wed at St. Helen’s Catholic Church with a reception following at the Williamson County Courthouse in Georgetown, Texas.

What a spunky and funny couple, it was almost hard to take photos because we were all laughing so hard! I think it was the first reception I’ve attended where cowboy hats and Texas accents were mandatory (yes, we had the DJ call them all out for a group photo!) Yet especially later in the evening, once the happy couple was ignoring us and we went into stealth photo ninja mode, there was such a lovely tender affection and sense of relief that it set my own heart to melting. My own 13th anniversary was the day after the wedding, and I thank you for giving me the perfect reminder of how wonderful it’s been! And thanks to Tyler Schmitt who is such an experienced and expensive wedding photographer for agreeing to come be my second: you were amazingly easy and fun to work with! Betcha didn’t know he was hiding back there!

Molock Show {Austin Event Photography}

The rock band Molock played a show at the Red-Eyed Fly at 715 Red River St in Austin tonight. Even though I’d heard the drummer play during a portrait shoot recently, I was still pleasantly impressed how good they were and wished I could have stayed longer to enjoy more of the show.

I first met Mike as a kid when we were studying at the same karate studio. He used to tease my baby by bringing her to me after class saying things like, “Tell Mama the new words you learned,” at which she would reply, “Anthrax!” or “Machine gun!” Years went by without seeing each other, but thanks to the modern wonder of the world, Facebook, we meet again when he is as grown up as I am with a life and career all his own, not to mention enough personality to fill a room even with almost no talking. Drum sticks flying, and a third-degree black belt, I’m glad I was the one doing the shooting.

Sometimes it’s hard to be pregnant and in front of a camera. I had 9 months to convince you to allow me to photograph you during this amazing and short-lived time. We’ll not mention the part where I actually had only 4 months because you hid your secret so well from everyone, even me! Did I just mention that? I hope you don’t regret having me, and that these make you feel every bit as beautiful as you are.
